Who makes Know Christmas?

Know Christmas is made by a small group of Christmas enthusiasts who love the season and the many ways the world celebrates it. It’s free, and it’s for everyone.

A worktable seen from above: open books, a small globe, a paintbox and brushes, a quill and ink, a magnifying glass and a cup of tea.

The big Christmas book

In a lot of homes there was a big Christmas book that came down from the shelf every December. It had the story of the first Christmas, carols with all their words, children in faraway countries, a few legends that made you shiver, and puzzles at the back. Someone read it aloud at bedtime, a page or two a night, and you fell asleep before the end.

Know Christmas is that book, for everyone, and it keeps growing. It tells where Christmas came from and how the world keeps it: its churches and its countries, the words people say and how to say them, the songs and the stories behind them. The history is checked, and its sources are shown. The legends are here too, because Christmas would not be Christmas without them, and each one is marked as the tale it is. The games are for playing, and the carols for singing.

Every page is free. Nothing is for sale. And there is always another page waiting.

How the book grows

New pages go into the book often, and the newest are always on the New pages shelf. Each one is researched and checked before it goes in; Where our facts come from tells you how.

The book is glad of letters, too. If you spot a mistake, if your family keeps a Christmas tradition the book hasn’t told yet, or if you have a question it doesn’t answer, write to us at hello@knowchristmas.com. Younger readers, ask a grown-up to write with you.
